Professor Dr. Maria Virvou is the Dean of the School of Informatics and Communication Technologies at the University of Piraeus, Greece. She is the Director and Founding Member of the Postgraduate Program in “Informatics” and serves as the Director of the Software Technology Research Laboratory.
In addition, she is the Co-Founder and Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Springer book series Learning and Analytics in Intelligent Systems and Artificial Intelligence-Enhanced Software and Systems Engineering. She is also the Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the IEEE Intelligent Information Systems and Applications (IISA) International Conference series, which is held annually. She previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the open-access journal SpringerPlus and currently serves as an Associate Editor of Knowledge-Based Systems (Elsevier). In 2024, she was the General Co-Chair of the 14th IEEE IISA Conference and the 14th AI-Enhanced Software Engineering Conference.
Professor Virvou received her Ph.D. from the University of Sussex, U.K., funded by a prestigious scholarship in Artificial Intelligence from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation following competitive national examinations. She also holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science from University College London (UCL), University of London, and a Degree in Mathematics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Her scholarly output comprises over 400 publications, including 44 editorials and 7 monographs, all indexed in Scopus. She has successfully supervised 15 Ph.D. candidates and 10 post-doctoral researchers. She has delivered numerous keynote speeches at prestigious international conferences, including the IEEE Int. Conf. on Tools with AI (ICTAI 2024) in Washington D.C., USA, and the IEEE Int. Conf. on Software Engineering Education and Training (CSEE&T 2023) in Tokyo, Japan.
Professor Virvou has received numerous honours, including an award from UNESCO for her outstanding contributions to computer science. In recognition of her impact, Springer published the edited volume Advances in Intelligent Healthcare Delivery and Management: Research Papers in Honour of Professor Maria Virvou for Invaluable Contributions (Springer, Germany).
She holds top positions in international research rankings. According to Scopus and Microsoft Academic Search, she ranks 1st in User Modelling (among 150,900 publications), and 1st in both Intelligent Software (out of 60,779 publications) and Educational Software (out of 40,585 publications) on Scopus. She is also ranked among the top 0.02% of AI researchers worldwide, based on analysis of over 670,000 scholarly documents by Scopus. She is also recognized among the leading researchers in User Interface, Multimedia, and Human-Computer Interaction, according to Microsoft Academic Search (2022).
Furthermore, she is consistently ranked among the top 2% of researchers worldwide with the highest scientific impact, according to the global academic ranking by Stanford University, particularly in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

In 1972, Prof. Ganapati Panda started his teaching career as lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Department at University College of Engineering (UCE), Burla and continued there till 1987. Subsequently, he did his M. Sc in Electronics and Communication Engineering and obtained his Ph. D. from E & ECE Department of IIT Kharagpur in 1982. He did his post-doctoral research work in Adaptive Signal Processing at the University of Edinburgh, UK during 1984-86. He worked for 15 years at UCE, Burla. In 1987, Prof. Panda joined as founder Head of newly started Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering Department of the then Regional Engineering College (presently NIT Rourkela) Rourkela. He was also Dean (Administration), Rourkela and was a member of the Board of Governors of NIT Rourkela. He served for 22 years. He laid the foundation of Research in this Department and made significant contribution in terms of teaching, research publication, guiding of Ph. D. students and funded research projects in NIT Rourkela. Dr. Panda also served as Director of the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur. In 2009 Prof. Panda joined in IIT Bhubaneswar and served as Deputy Director, Dean (Academic Affairs), and Founder Head of School of Electrical Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar. He was also a member of the Board of Governors of IIT Bhubaneswar. Since 2019, Prof. Ganapati Panda is serving as Research Advisor at C V Raman Global University-Odisha, Bhubaneswar, India. Till date, Prof. Panda has served for 52 years in teaching and research and academic administrator in leading technical institutions in India. He has guided 46 Ph. Ds in the field of Signal Processing, Communication, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning and currently twenty three more Ph.D. students are continuing their Ph.D. work under his active guidance. He has published more than 500 research papers in 300 referred Journals and 200 Conferences with 14923 citations, h-index of 58, and i10-index of 225 as of 9th March 2025. He has successfully completed a number of research projects from various funding agencies in India and other countries. Dr. Panda has been nominated as Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering, India (FNAE) and a Fellow of the National Academy of Science, India (FNASc), Fellow of (AAIA) for his significant research contribution to signal processing and machine learning. He has received Samanta Chandra Sekhar Award (1993), Biju Patnaik Award (2012), INAE-Outstanding Teacher Award (2017), AICTE-INAE Distinguished Visiting Professorship (2019-20), and AICTE- Margadarshak (2019-20), Life Time Achievement Award (2021), Senior Scientist (Odisha Bigyan Academy 2021), Vidyasagar Award (2024), listed under Top 2% Scientist of the world from the Stanford University in the area of AI&ML (2021,2022,2023, 2024) for his significant contributions to Engineering education, and Research. His name is included in the Technology Advisory Board of the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), Govt. of India in March 2022. Prof. Panda is listed as one of the World’s Best Computer Science Scientist in India by the Microsoft Academic Graph in the year 2022 with a national rank of 33. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, Fellow of IET, Fellow of IETE, Fellow of IE, Life Member of CSI, Life Member of ISTE, and a Life Member of System Society. He has chaired and delivered keynote addresses at many International Conferences in India and abroad. His research interests are in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Digital Signal Processing, Digital Communication, and Intelligent Instrumentation.

Leandros A. Maglaras is a Visiting Professor in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University and a member of the Centre for Cybersecurity, IoT, and Cyber-Physical Systems. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at the School of Computer Science and Informatics at De Montfort University. Previously, from 2019 to 2022, he was a Research Fellow at Prince Sultan University's Security Lab. He holds multiple degrees, including a B.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, two M.Sc. degrees from the University of Thessaly, and a Ph.D. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the same institution. In 2018, he was also awarded a Ph.D. in Intrusion Detection in SCADA systems from the University of Huddersfield.
From 2017 to 2019, Prof. Maglaras served as the Director of the Cyber Security Directorate and Head of the National Cyber Security Authority of Greece, where he played a pivotal role in shaping Greece’s cybersecurity landscape. Under his leadership, Greece climbed to the top rank among 160 countries in the NCSI index, significantly improving its cyber threat preparedness. His contributions included drafting Greece’s Cyber Security Strategy, implementing the NIS directive, and fostering collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders. Prof. Maglaras has actively contributed to various research projects in cybersecurity, vehicular networks, and ICT technologies, working on initiatives such as Concordia (H2020), Flourish (Innovate UK), and Fastpass (FP7). His research interests span cyber security, privacy preservation, risk management, routing protocols, vehicular networks, and social network analysis. He has served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of EAI Transactions on Security & Safety and continues to contribute as an editorial board member for journals like IEEE Access, Elsevier ICT Express, and IET/Wiley Information Security. A Senior Member of IEEE and a member of IET and the Technical Chamber of Greece, Prof. Maglaras has played an integral role in standardization efforts, including his involvement in the IEEE European Public Policy Initiative on ICT and the IEEE P61158 Working Group for Industrial Hard Real-Time Communication. His extensive expertise and leadership in cybersecurity and advanced networking continue to influence both academia and industry.

He graduated in Electrical Engineering from the Institution of Engineers, India in the year 1994, obtained M. Tech. and Ph. D. degree in Computer Science from Utkal University in 2001 and 2010 respectively.
