With the availability of massive amount of data, organizations are now focusing on understanding this data generated from heterogeneous sources and uncover hidden patterns in the form of new insights to support decision making. The field that has become an essential part of many organizations and deals with the massive amount of data using new age algorithms, tools and techniques to extract meaningful insights is known as Data Science. Data science is an interdisciplinary field that combines the underlying principles from statistics, mathematics, computer science, artificial intelligence and machine learning with various domain knowledge so as to generate actionable insights to guide decision making. Data sciences uses various algorithms organize both structured and unstructured data. Most of the organizations adopt Data Science to understand and find answers to queries like what happened, why that thing happened, what may happen in future and what are the available potential alternate solutions and answers to these queries help in building predictive models that not only increase business but also customer satisfaction. The lifecycle of Data Science projects begin with data acquisition followed by data warehousing for storage along with employing various data mining techniques for classification and clustering purposes. Next, the mined data is further analyzed using various analytics models to explore new data or to confirm previous data. Lastly, reports are communicated through visual charts and graphs. With growing applicability, it has been a fast growing field with numerous opportunities for researchers and practitioners from industries to research labs.

It involves designing of user-centered applications on the basis of human computer interfaces. It further includes management of projects, redefining its time lines, resources and outcomes. It includes creation of forecasting algorithms and improving the quality of data.
