Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIMT, Bhubaneswar is one of the most distinct and multi-faceted engineering disciplines imparting an undergraduate programme in Mechanical Engineering with approved intake of 30 seats. The basic principles of Physics, Mathematics and Materials Science with good problem-solving skills are inculcated to design and manufacture of products and services for delivering safe, efficient and reliable ones with process optimization basing on the utmost need parameters of potential customers. The discipline, being core at the forefront, focuses not only to deliver quality teaching to the learners but also to create new technologies pioneering through human needs entrusting in various enduring domains like energy, transportation, space exploration etc. The Department has been established with the objective of delivering comprehensive education that equips students with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to excel in the field of mechanical engineering. Through rigorous academic programmes and practical hands-on experiences, the department strives to cultivate a community of highly skilled engineers capable of addressing complex challenges and driving technological innovation. The department is engaged in high-quality focused inter-disciplinary and advanced areas envisioning the contemporary scenario in research and development. It aims to bring up a potential and successful line of learners to profound a huge impact on various spheres in the society. Besides this notion, faculty members have been proactively engaged in mentoring several start-ups and in turn, they have been proven to be quite instrumental through their experiential learning to foster and contribute towards certain significant societal goals. Research and Development activities in view of Seminars, Conferences, Workshops, Symposia are regularly conducted under the institutional flagship. The students across the Departments mentored by the faculty are encouraged to present research articles in national and international arena like Seminars and print media as well. It is noteworthy that the Institution has been equipped with a good many number of publications under reputed journal publishing houses in continuum round the year. The modern class rooms, state- of the art-technology laboratories, the weekend doubt clearing sessions, efficient proctorial practice and bimonthly wall magazines adorn coloured feathers to the beauty of the Department. A special feature of the Department is its fully equipped laboratory with the latest state-of-the-art equipments and machinery. The experienced and dedicated faculties along with state-of-the-art laboratories and advanced facilities support both in academic and research endeavours, offering opportunities to explore advanced technologies globally.

Prof. (Dr.) Himansu Sekhar Moharana,
Principal & Director (R&D) , IIMT Bhubaneswar.

Prof. (Dr.) Himanshu Sekhar Moharana is currently working as Principal in Interscience Institute of Management and Technology, Bhubaneswar. Prior to this he had worked in the capacity of a Professor in Mechanical Engineering and Dean Academics in HIT, Khurda, Dean Research in DRIEMS, Cuttack and GIFT, Bhubaneswar. He passed his Master of Engineering (Hons) from NITTTR, Chandigarh (Now NITTTR University) under Thapar University, Patiala and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. He passed his LLB and LLM in Labour laws from MS Law College (Now MS Law University) Cuttack, Odisha and MBA in Operations Management from IGNOU, New Delhi. He has 33 years of longstanding experience in Industry and Academia inclusive of 18 years of Research and Consultancy. He has guided 17 M.Tech.students and a Ph.D. scholar. He is a trainer of MSME, Govt. of India and deliver talks on specialized training programmes of Materials and Production Management at the said organisation. He worked as a Committee Member of Odisha State Centre of IE (I), Bhubaneswar for session 2010-2012. He has published many papers in International/ National Journals of repute out of which many of them are indexed in Scopus/ SCI and presented many Research papers in National/ International Seminars/Conferences as Keynote speaker and organized a 6 no. of FDPs. He is an eloquent speaker in the domain of Additive Manufacturing, Rapid Prototyping, Supply Chain Management and Production & Operations. During his career, he has been awarded with 12 (twelve) number of State Awards for his contribution in the field of research in Engineering and Technology. He is a Fellow Member of the Institution of Engineers (India), Member of Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering, a Senior Member of 4M Society of India & Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education.
